      • Understand and identify the elements of a news article






      •  Grammar- Comparatives and Superlatives Assignment

        Work through the worksheet to practice forming and using comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs.

      • The Inverted Pyramid highlights the structure of a news article.


      •  Reading the News Assignment

        Instructions:  Find one recent (within the last 2 months) news report that interests you.  This news item should be found in a Canadian newspaper.
        As you read the article, use the reading strategies you have learned to help you understand what you are reading.


        Answer the following questions:

        1. What online news website is your article from?
        2. Why did you choose this news article? (Why does it interest you?)
        3. What is the headline?
        4. What is the date and author of this news article?
        5. Identify the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and H (How)
        6. Write down two important quotations from the article.  Why are these quotations important?
        7. Was there an interesting picture in this news article that caught your eye?
        8. Write a summary of the news article.
        9. List 5 unknown words from your chosen article and their definitions.
