Before we watch about 15 minutes of a documentary about violence in the media, here are some facts to consider that come up in the documentary:
In the USA, 17% of children ages 5-8 play video games at least once a day. 38% play at least once a week.
By age 11, American children have seen 8,000 murders and 100,000 other acts of violence on various media (tv, movies, video games, comics etc)
By age 18, they have watched 40,000 murders and 200,000 other acts of violence.
American children watch television approximately 28 hours per week -- more hours than they spend in a classroom.
38% of American teachers approve of video gaming because they believe that it teaches multi-tasking.
- This is a 30-minute long documentary about how more and more violence is being portrayed in social media (ex. video games, movies, Internet websites etc). We will watch the first half if it.

Are any of you videogamers? Have you ever seen or played violent games?
Is it just art and entertainment, or can it lead to violent behaviour?
Do you agree or disagree with some evidence that seems to indicate that watching violent images repeatedly can trigger violent behaviour?
The documentary was broadcast after a very violent school shooting in the USA at Newtown. Search Sandy Hook school shooting, 2012. What motivated the shooter?

Imagine that you were chosen to represent the young people of your country about issues related to violence in the media. Prepare a 1 page ( minimum 3 paragraphs) essay sharing your point of view on the issue:
Should children be protected from violence in various media products ( movies, tv shows, games, etc) ?
You may choose to agree or disagree with the idea, but you must present well-thought-out information, and you must be convincing.
