- Define key terms: pathogen, mutualism, antibiotic, plasmid, capsule, coccus, bacillus, spirillum, inorganic chemical, organic chemical, obligate aerobe, facultative aerobe, fermentation, obligate anaerobe, binary fission, conjugation, transformation, horizontal gene transfer, endospore.
- Know 2 major groups and some examples
- Know basic characteristics (prokaryote, reproductive cycles, basic structure, etc.)
- Names of different shapes and arrangements (e.g. streptococcus vs. staphylococcus)
- How they replicate
- Know some common diseases and disorders caused by bacteria
