You will research a genetic disorder and design an informative pamphlet about it. Your pamphlet should be visually engaging, well-organized, and include essential details about the disorder, the goal is to educate the public about the disorder, its causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevalence.
REQUIREMENTS- Cover Page (1 mark)
- Title of the pamphlet (name of the disorder).
- A relevant image or graphic.
- Your name.
- What is [Disorder Name]? (3 marks)
- Explain what happens to the body due to the disorder.
- Identify which parts of the body are affected.
- List possible effects on the body.
- What Causes This Disorder? (5 marks)
- Describe the genetic mutation (insertion, deletion, substitution, etc.).
- Identify the location of the mutation (chromosome, gene, specific base change).
- Explain inheritance (genetic tendency, sex-linked, recessive/dominant).
- How is it Diagnosed? (2 marks)
- Describe the diagnostic process (tests, screenings).
- Mention if genetic conseling is an option.
- Treatment Options (3 marks)
- Explain possible treatments (medications, gene therapy, lifestyle changes).
- Who is Affected? (2 marks)
- Indicate how common the disorder is.
- Provide Canadian statistics if available.
- Sources (4 marks)
- Use a minimum of 4 references.
- Format all references in APA style (can be placed in a small section on the back of the pamphlet).
