Learning Goals: By the end of this lesson you will be able to
(1) choose an appropriate approach to reading a text to match the purpose of reading (e.g., scan to locate the relevant section in a text; skim to identify the main point; increase speed in completing the OSSLT Test on time;
(2) Use the PEEL System to organize an essay outline.

Your Independent Work Assignment is to develop the outline for an Opinion Essay.
ESSAY TOPICS
DEVELOP THE OUTLINE FOR AN OPINION ESSAY BASED ON ONE [1] OF THE FOLLOWING THREE TOPICS:
1. Homework should be abolished after Grade 11.
2. Only people who have a college or university degree can be successful.
3. Our childhood years (the time from birth to 12 years of age) are the most important years of our lives.
USE THE PEEL SYSTEM TO ORGANIZE YOUR ESSAY:
Your outline should have three (3) specific POINTS that are clearly EXPLAINED with details, supported by EVIDENCE (examples, facts, statistics etc) and LINK back clearly to your opinion (which is your essay THESIS)
