Specific Expectations

Learning Goals: By the end of this lesson, you will be able to
- Define new words using context clues.
- Use the KWL pre-reading strategy to aid in the understanding of an informational text.
- Write an informational text on a topic of your choosing
- Choose the most relevant details from a teacher-selected video to include in the informational text.
- Discuss your writing process with your teacher.
During this lesson, you will be using the KWL chart, to preview and reflect on the reading.
Before you begin reading, complete the K and W sections, and once you have finished reading, complete the L section.

Instructions: Choose one of the videos below, that provides details about an animal. Use the video as a source for creating a short 2-paragraph information text about your chosen animal.
While working on this assignment, you will have a conference with your teacher, to discuss your writing process.
Consider the following when writing your text :
- Who is the audience for this text?
- What is the purpose of this text?
- What do you you want yout readers to learn from this text?
- What details from the video are essential to presenting this information?
- How will you divide your text into two paragaphs? What different information will be contained in each one?
- What specific words are necessary for discussing this topic?
- How will you use or explain these words so that the reader will understand them?
- Who is the audience for this text?
