      • Use context clues to find the meanings of new words 
      • Understand how to use the reading strategy and visualization to understand a narrative text
      • Read and respond to the narrative text "The Gift of the Magi." 
      • Make inferences about the text 
      • Write a summary of the text

        Watch the video explaining how to use visualization to help you better understand what you read.  Do you think that this strategy will work for you?

      •  Lesson 4: Vocabulary Quiz
      • As you read the short story  "The Gift of the Magi", try to visualize the characters, setting, and events. Take notes, or even sketch what you imagine. You may be asked to share the results of this process with the class.

      •  Summary Writing: The Gift of the Magi (Assignment)

        Part 1 Summarize the text. List five to seven key events from the story in the order in which they happen. Your summary should include the main points from the beginning, middle, and end of the story. It shouldn't be longer than 3 paragraphs. (HOMEWORK)


        Part 2 Once you have finished your summary, compare your work to your partner. If you believe that your summary can be improved, edit your work and submit both versions. (Wednesday, in class).
