Newspaper Headlines like Essay Titles are never written in complete sentences.
Instructions: Open the attached document. Write effective headlines for the five examples of newspaper stories you find there.
Once you are done, you will share our responses with the class. Let's see just how creative you all are!
Now that you have received feedback on your headline, let's try again!
Remember that HEADLINES are HOOKS and TITLES:
1. Write the verbs in the present tense. This makes the article seem like today's news even if something happens earlier.
2. Use Key Words only. Don't write complete sentences. Include one or two W5 facts like WHERE? WHO? WHAT? For example: Man Robs Bank (that is who + what + where)
3. Place the subject before the object. [Active Voice versus Passive Voice]
Good example: Dog Bites Man
Bad example: Man Was Bitten by Dog
Download the attached document and write effective HEADLINES based on the topics
Read these notes carefully before you begin planning your own news report. remember, the news is supposed to deal in facts!
Instructions: For the next activity, you will choose one of the topics from either of the previous headline activities, and complete the New Report Planning Template. You must use your imagination to come up with the details of the story. While your story can be a funny one, it must make sense.
