    Unit Description:

This unit focusses on how the physical environment affects where Canadians live. Students will look at various aspects that impact this choice, including the different geographic regions of Canada. Students will look in-depth into climate regions and landforms, as well as how these regions were formed. In this unit, students will also cover how different regions learned, will impact and affect cultural and economic activities, while also discussing how interactions between Canadians and their environment produces challenges abroad and at home.

Topics that students will learn include Canada's population patterns, exploring connections between landforms, geology, and human activities, and exploring connections between climate, soil, natural vegetation, and human activities.  The bulk of this unit is for students to explore Canadian geography, and how it affects Canadians directly, and indirectly.

    Learning Goals:

    • The Physical Environment and Human Activities: analyze various interactions between physical processes, phenomena, and events and human activities in Canada
    • Interrelationships between Physical Systems, Processes, and Events: analyze characteristics of various physical processes, phenomena, and events affecting Canada and their interrelationship with global physical systems
    • The Characteristics of Canada’s Natural Environment: describe various characteristics of the natural environment and the spatial distribution of physical features in Canada, and explain the role of physical processes, phenomena, and events in shaping them
