Unit 1 - Stories of Courage- Meiko and The Fifth Treasure
Unit Description and Learning Goal:
In this unit you will read a novel, Mieko and the Fifth Treasure. You will read independently, using tools such as pre-reading and prediction to understand this longer story. To help you practise
reading without stopping to look up words, you will make and use vocabulary bookmarks. You will make notes two different
ways, write letters, make character maps, and use a flow chart. In addition, you will learn about the main elements of all stories: character, setting, plot, atmosphere, and theme.
