Learning Goals
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Use the research process to investigate family values, traditions, and changes in families over time.
- Identify and apply the three social science disciplines — Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology — to the study of families in Canada.
- Communicate research clearly using appropriate formats, academic vocabulary, APA citations, and reflective thinking.
- How different theories explain families and society
- How people behave in groups and relationships
- How family roles, power, communication, and social systems affect behaviour
Success Criteria
After completing the assessments and class quiz, students will be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of family studies concepts and theories
- explain family theories in simple language
- give real-life examples of different theories
- apply research and inquiry skills to real-life family issues
- communicate research findings effectively and confidently
