You work for the school newspaper and have been asked to write a 175 -200 word newspaper article on one of the following breaking news stories:
1) There is a sudden COVID-19 BREAKOUT in the school.
2) A teacher is arrested for STEALING MONEY from the Student Council bank account.
3) Students at the school GO ON STRIKE over the poor quality of the food in the cafeteria
You will have to make up the facts and information. Your article must have a catchy HOOK as a title
Use your imagination and include one or more made-up characters (WHO) - use quotes from witnesses or people involved; WHAT happens?; WHERE?; WHEN? WHY did it happen and WHY is this an important story; also describe HOW.
Read the sample Article from an OSSLT exam and answer the comprehension questions.
We have all grown up reading fables and fairy tales. All cultures have them. Why?
We either read them ourselves or have others read them to us when we are young (for example, parents, teachers etc.)
Download and read the traditional Chinese Fable The Miserly Farmer.
The teacher has highlighted some vocabulary in the narrative text which you will put into your PORTFOLIO as a Glossary, along with a definition as well as an example of how the word is used in a sentence (an original sentence not the one in the story).
NEXT: write a 125-150 word short paragraph describing one of your favourite fables or fairy tales. Briefly describe what happens and what the "message" was.
