WELCOME TO ESLDO
This course prepares students to use English with increasing fluency and accuracy in classroom and social situations and to participate in Canadian society as informed citizens. Students will develop the oral-presentation, reading, and writing skills required for success in all school subjects. Students will study and interpret a variety of grade-level texts; write narratives, and summaries in English; and respond critically to a variety of print and media texts.
Why Learning Online is Important
More and more post-secondary institutes are demanding that students watch lectures, complete assignments and hand-in work online. In addition, many professional courses, Masters Degrees or employee training is now completed online. Getting familiar with this style of learning and submission is an important aspect for your future.
LIVING ABROAD
In this unit, we will explore what it is like to live and study in a foreign country. What you do everyday, meeting new people and how your life might be different if you lived abroad. Students will use a variety of strategies to build up their vocabulary, and improve their accuracy. Students will practice a variety of tenses, new everyday idioms, verbs and synonyms and read to evaluate and respond to texts.
LIFE EXPERIENCES
In this unit, we will explore your life experiences and how they might impact your future career. We will discuss travel and work experiences plus career planning. Students will work with a variety of authentic dialogues and readings. Students will design a personal resume, create a video resume, extract information for presentations, evaluate information sources with the unit culminating in an multi-media presentation. Students will practice several tenses, verbs related to resume building.
PROBLEM-SOLVING
In this unit, we will explore how to discuss various problems and how to solve and explain these problems in English. We will study new vocabulary strategies, how to connect words, transition words, write a complaint letter and create stories from pictures.
HIGH SCHOOL IN ONTARIO
In this unit, we will explore the Ontario High School System. We will study listening and reading for specific information and interact, reflection on your life and listening to Academic Lectures.
THE GREATEST CANADIAN
In this unit, we will be discussing aspects of Canadian history and geography. We be listening to authentic material, interpreting media text, reflect on the nature of leadership, learn to paraphrase and complete a research project
FINAL PROJECT - DIGITAL PORTFOLIO
A portfolio is a collection of your work to show what you have learned. As your Final Project you will be making a digital portfolio to showcase the knowledge you have learned in this ESL class.
