Activity 4.3.2 Using Rhetorical Devices
Instructions: This activity is the beginning stages of a 5 paragraph essay that will be completed at the end of this lesson. You will create a plan for an essay on the topic How much is too much homework? In this plan you will brainstorm, research and create arguments using the rhetorical devices used at the start of this lesson. Read the instructions carefully and complete all part as per the instructions.
Topic: Many schools believe that students should be assigned at least one hour of homework for each subject, every day. Others believe that homework is unnecessary and takes time away from other important activities. In your opinion, is there value in homework?
Step 1- Choose a side
Step 2 Brainstorm your ideas ( as many as you can)
Step 3 Do some research on your topic and ensure that you can support your ideas
Step 4 Identify 3 arguments to support your point of view
Step 5 Create examples or evidence that use any three (3) rhetorical devices
Success Criteria : Include each of the following in your completed work
- What is your point of view on the topic?
- What do you know about the topic: Brainstorm
- Which 3 rhetorical devices will you use in your arguments?
- Point 1 & Example or explanation using a rhetorical device
- Point 2 & Example or explanation using a rhetorical device
- Point 3 & Example or explanation using a rhetorical device
- Write a thesis statement incorporating your topic, point of view and the three reasons listed above. Do not include explanations in your thesis statement.
- Include citations for any research used in this activity.
