Assignment 2 - Immunization and Vaccines E-Poster

Since the introduction of vaccines, many serious illnesses have been brought under control. Immunization can protect you from a variety of diseases, such as:
  • Diphtheria
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Influenza
  • Measles (“red measles”)
  • Meningitis
  • Mumps
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Pneumonia
  • Polio
  • Rubella (“German measles”)
  • Tetanus (lockjaw)
  • Varicella (chicken pox)

Task:

You will create an e-poster to educate others about one of the diseases listed above (or another vaccine-preventable disease of your choice). Your e-poster should provide clear, concise, and informative details about the disease and its vaccination. In addition, you are required to submit your research notes along with the final poster.

Key points to include in the poster:

  1. Name of Disease - Clearly state the name of the disease.

  2. History of Disease - Provide a brief overview of the history of the disease. When was it first identified? How has it affected people historically?

  3. Symptoms of the Disease - Describe the key symptoms associated with the disease.

  4. Structure of Virus/Bacteria - Explain whether the disease is caused by a virus or bacteria. Include a basic description or visual of the pathogen’s structure.

  5. Transmission of Disease - How is the disease transmitted from one person to another?

  6. What Causes the Disease - Describe the root cause of the disease.

  7. How is it Treated (Other than Vaccination) - Explain any non-vaccine treatments or therapies used to manage the condition.

  8. Year Vaccine was Developed & Type of Vaccine - When was the vaccine developed, and what type is it (e.g., oral, injection)? How many doses are required for full immunization?

  9. References & APA Citation

    • Include a list of at least 5 credible sources you used to research the disease and its vaccine. This should be on a separate page.

    • Use APA style for all in-text citations and the reference list on a separate page. Provide in-text citations for any facts, data, or images (e.g., “(World Health Organization, 2022)”).

  10. Visuals

    • Your e-poster should be visually appealing and easy to read, incorporating images, diagrams, or charts where appropriate.

    • Keep the text concise while covering all key points. Use bullet points, headers, and visuals to structure the information clearly.

  11. Format - The e-poster can be created using any digital poster-making tool (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint, or Google Slides). A3 (11.7x16.5 inches) or A2 (16.5x23.4 inches)

Research Notes Requirements:

You are also required to submit your research notes along with your e-poster. These notes should include:

  • A breakdown of your findings for each key point (disease history, symptoms, transmission, vaccine details, etc.).

  • URLs for each source used, along with APA-formatted references.

  • See the Research Notes Template provided to help organize your notes. You can download it below.

What to Submit:

  • e-Poster

  • Reference list

  • Research notes
