Assignment 7 - Health and Fitness Profile
In this assignment, you will assume the role of a health and fitness counsellor. You will create a detailed health and fitness profile of an individual, identify areas for improvement, set achievable goals, and develop a plan to address these areas. You will also analyze the individual’s lifestyle choices and their impact on the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems.
PART A: HEALTH AND FITNESS PROFILE CREATIONSelect an Individual: Choose a real or fictitious individual for whom you will create a health and fitness profile. This could be you, a friend, or someone with specific health and fitness requirements (e.g., an Olympic athlete, a person with diabetes, a lung transplant patient, or a bypass surgery patient).
Identify Unique Health and Fitness Requirements: If the individual has unique health and fitness needs, such as a medical condition or special health requirements, describe them and explain why these needs are important.
Create a Health and Fitness Profile Using the Criteria Below: Select from the following criteria to compile a representative profile:
Sex (Male/Female)
Age
Height
Weight
Blood Pressure
Resting Heart Rate
Blood Glucose Level
Body Mass Index (BMI)
Percentage Body Fat (Skinfold)
Body Composition (Water, Protein, Fat)
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
VO2max (aerobic fitness level)
Muscle Strength
Muscle Endurance
Flexibility
Relevant Diseases/Disorders
Lifestyle Factors (e.g., activity level, diet, smoking, alcohol consumption)
Diet Analysis for a Week
Present your profile in a clear format (e.g., chart, table). If you are using real data, make sure the criteria you select can be measured with available equipment. If you are fabricating data, research normal ranges for each criterion based on the individual you chose.
Analyze the Impacts of Lifestyle Choices: Analyze how the individual’s lifestyle choices may impact the digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Include specific examples in your report.
PART B: IDENTIFY AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT AND SET GOALS
Research Normal Ranges for Criteria: If you have not already, research the normal ranges for the selected health and fitness criteria (e.g., typical blood pressure for a young adult is 120/80).
Identify Areas for Improvement: Review the health and fitness profile and identify areas that could be improved based on the individual’s current health and fitness status. Consider factors such as high blood pressure, low flexibility, or high body fat percentage.
Set Achievable Goals: Based on the identified areas for improvement, set realistic and achievable goals. For example, if the individual’s blood pressure is 130/90, the goal could be to reduce it to below 120/80.
PART C: CREATE A HEALTH AND FITNESS PLAN
Develop a Health and Fitness Plan: Create a comprehensive plan to achieve the goals set in Part B. Organize the plan into three categories.
Diet: Recommendations for changes in eating habits (e.g., reducing sodium intake, increasing fruits and vegetables).
Physical Activity: Suggestions for physical activities to improve fitness (e.g., aerobic exercises, strength training).
Lifestyle: Recommendations for improving other aspects of life (e.g., quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption, managing stress).
Establish a Time Frame: Include a reasonable time frame for achieving the goals. This should allow enough time for noticeable changes in health and fitness.
Compile the Report: Combine the profile from Part A, the identified goals from Part B, and the action plan from Part C into a clear, organized report. As the health and fitness counsellor, present this report in a professional format.
PART D: QUESTIONS
In your report, answer the following questions:
Explain why you chose the specific criteria for the health and fitness profile. How do these criteria help paint an accurate picture of the individual’s health and fitness?
Why is it important to include a time frame in the health and fitness plan? How does it help in the achievement of goals?
Which aspects of the plan do you think will be most challenging for the individual to implement? Why?
If you created a health and fitness profile for yourself, what areas would need improvement based on your current health and fitness status?
Contact a local fitness coach or counsellor for an interview, or research the career online (make sure to cite using APA style). Prepare questions that will help you gather the following information:
Educational and training requirements
Physical skills required
Enjoyable and not-so-enjoyable aspects of the career
What to Submit:
A complete report, including all required information and any charts, tables, or diagrams that support your analysis or make the report clearer. Ensure the report is well-organized, with clear headings for each section and proper in-text citation where possible (APA style).
- A reference list (APA style), list all sources used in preparing your report and ensure the citations are complete and accurate.
