Still Life Artist Research & Cross-Contour Drawing Inspired by an Artist
Part 1: Research & Reflection
- Choose an Artist – Select a still life artist from the list below or choose another artist you like.
- Select One Artwork – Find a still life artwork by your chosen artist (a photo of the artwork).
- Write a Reflection – Answer the following questions about the artwork:
- What is the name of the artwork?
- What year was it created?
- Where is the artwork currently located (museum, gallery, collection)?
- What technique did the artist use?
- What do you like about this artwork?
- What elements of art did the artist use (such as color, shape, texture, or balance)?
- How does the artist use line and form?
- Add any additional details you find interesting about the artwork.
Part 2: Recreate the Artwork
- Careful Observation – Study the chosen artwork closely, paying attention to how the artist draws the objects.
- Sketch the Composition – Carefully draw the objects as the artist did, focusing on accuracy in shapes and proportions.
- Apply the Cross-Contour Technique – Use curved and directional lines to mimic the artist’s technique and define the form of each object.
- Refine and Complete – Add details, adjust the lines, and ensure the drawing captures the depth and style of the original artwork.
- Submit Your Work – After finishing all parts, take a photo of your drawing, compile everything into a single PDF, and upload it to Moodle (Lesson 5).
