Assignment 4: The Hero's Journey
Instructions.
For this assignment, you will work together to plan and create a presentation that demonstrates your understanding of The Hero's Journey.
NOTE: This assignment will be completed in two parts.
Part 1: A conversation to discuss your story, why you chose it, what you understand about it, and your understanding of the Hero’s Journey.
Part 2: Your presentation.
Each task will receive a separate grade.
Choose one of the following options
1. Identify and discuss the elements of the Hero's Journey that the main character of any film or novel that you are familiar with.
OR
2. Write your own short story, where the main character follows the stages of the Hero's Journey.
Your presentation should be approximately 10 minutes. 
In your presentation, you must do the following
- Explain what the Hero's Journey is ( what is its purpose)
- Summarize your text
- Provide background to your main character
- Identify and describe as many of the stages of the hero's Journey found in your text:
Ordinary World: Describe the ordinary world from which your Hero comes. What does it look like? Who is in it?
Call to Adventure: What is the call to adventure? Is it an object? A person? An event?
Assistance: Who is the mentor? How does your character meet them?
Departure: How does your character cross into the “unknown” world? What does it look like?
Trials: What are some of the tests, allies, and enemies that appear in your story?
Approach: how do the hero and newfound allies prepare for the major challenge in the Special World?
Crisis: The most difficult and complicated conflict in the story – What is the ultimate challenge for your Hero? How do they overcome this?
Treasure: what is the reward for their journey?
Return: Their journey back to the ordinary world. What does it look like?
New Life: In what way is the conflict from the beginning of the story (in the home world) resolved?
Resolution: What does the hero return with? (An object? Treasure? Love? Wisdom? Power? Freedom?)
Your presentation must include visuals that clearly illustrate the story and the journey Consider using PowerPoint or a free graphics program such as Canva https://www.canva.com.
