Within a provincial legislature, members of the Provincial Parliament (MPPs) are people chosen by the electorate to represent particular electoral districts, sometimes referred to as ridings or constituencies. 

In a provincial legislature, like the one in Ontario, the Speaker of the House is an impartial figurehead who is in charge of directing discussions and upholding decorum during sittings. Arnott, Ted.

Usually members of the ruling party in the province legislature, cabinet ministers are chosen by the premier.

The head of the political party with the second-most seats in the provincial assembly is known as the Leader of the Official Opposition.


The Leader of the Opposition appoints Members of the Official Opposition to the Shadow Cabinet.
