Facts about Media
Before we watch about 15 minutes of a documentary about violence in the media, here are some facts to consider that come up in the documentary:
In the USA, 17% of children ages 5-8 play video games at least once a day. 38% play at least once a week.
By age 11, American children have seen 8,000 murders and 100,000 other acts of violence on various media (tv, movies, video games, comics etc)
By age 18, they have watched 40,000 murders and 200,000 other acts of violence.
American children watch television approximately 28 hours per week -- more hours than they spend in a classroom.
38% of American teachers approve of video gaming because they believe that it teaches multi-tasking.
