Lecture Overview

Our next reading and writing strategy involves using question words. In this lesson we will focus on  WH + H questions.

WH question words are words that are used to ask questions. They are called "WH" question words because they all start with the letters "WH." These words help gather information and seek specific details in conversations or written communication. In English, there are several primary WH question words:

  1. Who: Used to inquire about a person or people responsible for an action or situation. Example: Who is coming to the party tonight?

  2. What: Used to ask for information about something, an action, or an event. Example: What is your favorite color?

  3. When: Used to inquire about the time or date of an event or occurrence. Example: When will the meeting start?

  4. Where: Used to ask about the location or place of an event or object.

  5. Why: Used to seek the reason or cause behind an action, situation, or decision. Example: Why did you choose that restaurant for dinner?
  6. The WH question words are often joined by an H.- How which seeks to understand the method or manner  by which something happens. Example - How did you figure out where to go?
