Lecture 6.1.1 – The Evolution of the Still Camera
Lecture Overview
In this lecture, we are going to explore the evolution and development of the Still Camera.
Camera Obscura (Pin Hole) Camera obscura is an ancient device for projection an image on a wall or other surface. Oldest mention of its effect is by Mozi, Chinese philosopher and the founder of Mohism, during the 5th century BC. Artists (mainly in Italy) started using camera obscura in 15th century (The Renaissance) to project on a canvas that they would then drew and paint over.
Photos were on on silver coated plate and later silver coated paper. The first photograph of a human appeared in a snapshot captured in France by Louis Daguerre. The exposure lasted around eight minutes.
