Lecture Overview

Have you ever had to interview someone? I don’t mean a job interview. I mean an extended interview like the ones we see on television where a musician or an actor answers a series of short questions posed by an interviewer.

A good interview is based on deep research into the subject person’s background and their accomplishments. It also relies on asking the right questions – asking them briefly in order to give the one being interviewed more time to answer.

In the next activity you are going to respond orally to a number of written questions that the teacher has prepared.

I’m going to demonstrate the procedure with the first two questions. There are two main learning goals required in this activity. First, you must speak for about one minute in answering each question, and secondly, you must use one form of figurative language in each answer. In the next unit on poetry we will learn more about figurative language or as its often called – literary devices.
