Developing an “AI and Sustainability Youth Essay and Speech Competition”  Topic Using the KCI Framework and ChatGPT

Step 1: Initial Knowledge Building

The teacher introduces the foundational concepts of AI and sustainability through lectures or multimedia presentations. 

Student Tasks:

Explore key questions individually or in teams, such as:

  • What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
  • What does sustainability mean?
  • How can AI contribute to sustainability?

Share your findings, insights, or questions about AI’s role in sustainability on CollaborationBook.

Document your contributions in KnowledgeBook to create a shared repository of ideas for the community.

Step 2: Inquiry Activities

The teacher guides students through structured inquiry activities to deepen their understanding of AI and sustainability.

Student Tasks:

  • Explore key questions individually or in teams, such as:
  • How can AI drive innovation for sustainable practices?
  • What are the ethical challenges of using AI in sustainability initiatives?
  • Can AI balance economic growth with environmental conservation?

Use provided prompts, case studies, or real-world examples to conduct research and develop critical thinking.

Step 3: Refinement of Knowledge Artifacts

The teacher facilitates the refinement of students' ideas through collaboration and feedback.

Student Tasks:

  • Review and provide constructive feedback on your peers’ draft topics.
  • Incorporate suggestions from teachers or mentors to ensure alignment with the competition's objectives.
  • Conduct further inquiry and revise your work based on feedback from peers and facilitators.

Step 4: Knowledge Sharing

Write a reflection on how the KCI framework and AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) supported students by:

  • Encouraging collaboration and communication skills.
  • Fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
  • Supporting the co-construction of knowledge.
  • Aligning inquiry with curricular standards to ensure relevance.
