REVIEW GUIDELINES
Part A: Knowledge & Understanding (15 marks)
Topics:
- First and second derivative definitions (e.g., \( s'(t) = v(t), s''(t)=a(t) \)).
- Meaning of extrema, critical points, velocity vs. acceleration
- How to apply quotient rule and power rule
Practice:
- Practice derivative computations
- Know when an object is speeding up vs. slowing down
- Revisit theory in sections 3.1 and 3.2
Part B: Thinking & Inquiry (13 marks)
Topics:
- Solve real moton problems (when is object at rest, direction of motion)
- Analyze when an object speeds up/slows down using sign charts
- Classify critical points using first or second derivtive
Practice:
- Rework Examples in sections 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 (motion and sketching)
- Practice writing structured solutions (with headings like: velocity, acceleration, sign chart)
Part C: Communication (10 marks)
Topics:
- Use calculus terms correctly in full sentences
- Explain speeding up vs. slowing down in context
- Sketch and label graphs showing: min, max, inflection points
Practice:
- Practice writing short paragraph explanations
- Use consistent terminology (e.g., increasing/decreasing, concave up/down)
Part D: Application (12 marks)
Topics:
- Model and solve optimization problems (area, profit, motion)
- Use derivatives to find mazima/minima in real-life contexts
- Interpret your math answer in a sentence
Practice:
- Rework Examples in section 3.4 (fencing, business profit)
- Use the full 4-step process: define variables, derive function, optimize and interpret
