Lesson 1.4 - The Architecture of Poetry (Literary Devices)
Learning Goal(s): By the end of this lesson you will be able to
(1) communicate their opinions and interpretations of poetry in a clear, coherent manner;
(2) make increasingly more insightful connections between the ideas in poetry and their personal knowledge, experience, and insights, and connect these to the world around them.
Tell us about your favorite thing to see in the natural world and why. Is it trees? Flowers? Birds? Lakes and Streams? Animals? If you don't like Nature, tell us why not?

Work in groups of 1-3.
1. Play a video/audio of one of your favourite songs. Share a short clip from your song with the lyrics and do an oral presentation explaining the following.
2. Explain your interpretation of all 6 of the lyrics using the TPCAST method of analysis (Title, Paraphrase, Connotations, Attitude, Shift and Theme). **2-3 Paraphrasing and connotations only.
3. Of course, give your overall opinion of the song and how it makes you feel and your personal opinions about it. **Be ready to share it with the class.
4. Put your Music Video Title, Author and Link on a Google Docs or PPT with key notes on each Typcast element and your own opinion/connections to the song.
**Oral Presentation 2-4 minutes depending on how many people are in your group.
Think about what a Journal means to you. Then answer the questions below.
1. What is the meaning of a Journal?
2. Have you ever written in a Journal before? Explain.
3. What sorts of ideas do you put in a Journal?
4. Do you think you should write your personal thinking and opinions in a Journal? Explain why or why not.
