Lesson 1.2 -Carbohydrates & Lipids
Learning Goals: By the end of this lesson you will be able to
i) Illustrate 3D models of Carbohydrates; Lipids and Proteins
ii) Identify common functional groups within biological molecules (e.g., hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, amino, phosphate), and explain how they contribute to the function of each molecule.iii) Testing the presence of glucose, reducing sugar and fats in a food samples.
Success Criteria: By the end of this lesson you will be able to
have a clear concept of the molecular structures of three macromolecules of life and can explain with evidence the unique role of carbon in living things.
Assignments / Homework:- AS /FOR ASSESSMENT

HW- functional groups (_ 60 min) (10 marks)- Specific Expectations:
B2.3 construct and draw three-dimensional molecular models of important biochemical compounds, including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids [PR, C]
B2.4 conduct biological tests to identify biochemical compounds found in various food samples (e.g., use Benedict’s solution to test for carbohydrates in food samples), and compare the biochemical compounds found in each food to those found in the others [PR, AI, C]
B3.3 identify common functional groups within biological molecules (e.g., hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, amino, phosphate), and explain how they contribute to the function of each molecule Students to complete this after you've finished all activities/tasks in today's lesson.
