    Learning Goals: In today's lesson you will discuss Mieko's first day at school. You will also learn about the elements of a story.



    • Lesson 4 Glossary

      Add your words and meanings to today's glossary. Include a picture if you can.

      To be completed after students have added their words to the glossary 


    • With a partner, role-play a conversation between Mieko and her mother or father. 

      Imagine that you are Mieko, and you have gotten home after your first day of school. You call your parents to tell them what has happened since you left home and how you are feeling.  What would she say? 
      What would her parents say to her? Remember the things that her parents and grandparents have told her about how to be a good person and deal with difficult situations.


      Each person should speak at least 5 times in your conversation.

      • Answer the questions about Mieko
      • Read Chapter 5 
      • Write your notes for chapter 5 
      • Review what you have learned this week.
