Dr Rank’s short speech about Krogstad is a good example of exposition and verbal characterization. He says that Krogstad is “morally twisted” (1082). What could that mean?
When Krogstad first arrives he tells Nora he is working in Torvald's bank. However, a few minutes later Nora tells Dr. Rank, “I didn’t know … Krogstad had anything to do with the bank.” Discuss your opinion why Nora seems to be telling a lie.
Dr. Rank’s attitude towards sick people is paradoxical. What is "paradox?" How is his opinion a paradox? Discuss and come to a group agreement.
Krogstad challenges and threatens Nora over the loan and the bond.
In a short paragraph (200 words approximately) describe
1. What “crime” Nora has committed, 2. Why she did it, 3. What could be the consequences of her "crime"? 4. What should Nora do: Tell her husband? Hope that Krogstad will not betray her to Helmer? Other opinions....
Submission Format: PDF (include your name, date and assignment title); Double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font.
Read carefully to the end of ACT 1. The scenes are filled with character revelation, understatement and shifts in attitude.
As you read the rest of Act 1, write down a brief analysis of what you think are five (5) important lines using paraphrases and notes to explain the drama and characterization that is unfolding in the line. For example:
NORA says to herself: “ ….. I will do everything I can to please Torvald …. I will …. dance for you.” NORA THINKS OUT LOUD SAYING SHE CAN MAKE THINGS BETTER IF SHE CAN DISTRACT HER HUSBAND FROM FINDING OUT THE TRUTH.
HELMER says to Nora: “…. To give him any sort of promise? And to tell me a lie ….?” TORVALD ACCUSES NORA OF LYING AND BETRAYING HIM BEHIND HIS BACK TO HELP KROGSTAD.
