Lesson 3.1 - Understanding and Producing Media Texts
Learning Goals: By the end of this lesson you will be able to reflect on the media they consume with awareness and a critical eye.
Tell us about the social media platforms you use, for example in Canada: WeChat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or their Chinese equivalents.
All together, how much time each day do you spend on them?
What could others learn about you from your Social Media Profile and social data?
Social Media Profiles are a collection of characteristics that can identify some or all of the following:
- Your interests
- Your expertise
- Your connections and associations
- Your relationship status
- Your geographic location
- Your recent activities (trips, concerts, restaurants, online shopping purchases etc)
- Your values and ideologies (the ideas you believe in)
Watch the episode entitled Barista from the CBC show THIS IS THAT. In point form write down all the ways the Producers have attempted to convince you the story is true and not fake.
This Powerpoint reviews FAKE NEWS; REALITY TV etc
The URL is courtesy of The Toronto Star.
Read it carefully and make a list of the main points in the article which you will present in class tomorrow.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE A VIDEO!
You will draft the WRITTEN SCRIPT for a fake news episode similar to the Riderless Bike and Barista stories.
In a few sentences describe the fake news story idea you have in mind.
In a paragraph describe the techniques you will use to make your fake story seem real and true:,describe the character or characters, the setting, the types of shots, dialogue etc, to be included in your fake news story,
Include any brief notes about how each element in your story will contribute to the overall message. YOU CAN ADD IMAGES IF YOU LIKE BUT IT IS NOT NECESSARY
Imagine that your fake news story will be about 2 minutes long.RESPONSE
