Lesson 3.2 - Visual Media

- Assignment: UNIT Media Studies - MEDIA PROJECT: a Photography Exhibit - OVERALL EXPECTATION(S): - Understanding Media Forms, Conventions, and Techniques: identify some media forms and explain how the conventions and techniques associated with them are used to create meaning; Reflecting on Skills and Strategies: reflect on and identify their strengths as media interpreters and creators, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful in understanding and creating media. - Learning Goal(s): I will be able to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding about what makes a great photograph and how a series of photograph can together communicate a theme. - Success Criteria: I am successful when the clarity of my exhibit demonstrates that I have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills.\ - Assignment Description: PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT - You will create a Photography Exhibition consisting of 4-6 photos (colour, black and white or both) on a theme of your choice. - The photographs must be original. Paste all photos onto a single document with a paragraph describing the exhibit’s theme and how each photograph relates to that theme. - You may also include some personal and technical information about any challenges you faced while taking the photographs. - The teacher expects the text should be at least 200 words long. 
- AS WE COME TO THE MIDWAY POINT IN THE COURSE, TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO ASSESS YOUR LEARNING SKILLS AND WORK HABITS. - Rate yourself from 1-4 for each category. Indicate the category, a rating number and add a sentence or two - For example: - Self Regulation - 3. INITIATIVE: Do I look for and act on new ideas and opportunities for learning; do I demonstrate a willingness to take risks; do I demonstrate curiosity and interest in learning; do I approaches new tasks with a positive attitude? - E. SELF-REGULATION: Do I set my own individual goals and monitors my progress towards achieving them; do I seek clarification or assistance when needed; do I assesses and reflects critically on my own strengths, needs, and interests; Do I identify learning opportunities, choices, and strategies to meet my personal needs and achieve goals; do I persevere and make an effort when responding to challenges?

- Then read the article "The Truth About Reality TV" which you can download from this activity
 - Make a list of the shows you have either heard about or actually watched. Were you surprised that any of these shows were fake? Explain
- Make a list of other Reality TV Shows that you know. How many of them do you think are real? How many are fake? Explain your reasons.
