Read the poem Departure by Edna St Vincent Millay (found in the Unit 2 - Resource Folder). The poem is written from a Feminist Perspective. In order to analyze the poem and come to an opinion about its feminist theme answer the following questions: 

  1. What is the Rhyme Scene? Begin with the letter A for the phoneme “ake”
  2. What effect does the writer’s repetition of certain phrases have?
  3. What is the narrator willing to sacrifice for the long walk she wants to take?
  4. What does the shift in the last stanza tell you about the walker?
  5. In your opinion, will the narrator ever go on that long walk she dreams about?
  6. How do you know this is a poem written from a feminist perspective?
