Read the poem Departure by Edna St Vincent Millay (found in the Unit 2 - Resource Folder). The poem is written from a Feminist Perspective. In order to analyze the poem and come to an opinion about its feminist theme answer the following questions:
- What is the Rhyme Scene? Begin with the letter A for the phoneme “ake”
- What effect does the writer’s repetition of certain phrases have?
- What is the narrator willing to sacrifice for the long walk she wants to take?
- What does the shift in the last stanza tell you about the walker?
- In your opinion, will the narrator ever go on that long walk she dreams about?
- How do you know this is a poem written from a feminist perspective?
