Crafting Your Thesis Statement

Make a submission

Now that you have learned about what a thesis statement should and should not look like, it is your turn to craft a thesis statement for your essay .

Instructions: Your  second Assessment for this unit, asks you to write an essay about Zoos. Think carefully about your opinion on the topic, and write your thesis statement

Just in case you forgot, here is the question again :  Every year, millions of people around the world visit zoos . But some people believe that zoos should not exist, and that animals should not be kept in captivity. Do you agree? Why or why not?   Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

Before you submit your thesis statement, ask yourself the following questions :

  • Does my thesis statement state the topic of the essay?
  • Does my thesis statement state my point of view on the topic?
  • Does my thesis statement indicate the three main arguments that will be used in my essay?
  • Is my thesis statement 1-2 sentences?
  • Is my thesis statement clear and easy to understand ?

Once you are finished, share your thesis statement with your teacher or a trusted classmate. Consider their feedback carefully,  and revise your thesis statement.
