Assessment 4- Short Stories

This is your second  graded assignment for Unit 3. Please read the instructions carefully. 


Instructions:  Read the short story "Fish Cheeks" by Asian American author Amy Tan.  As you read the story, you try to understand the protagonist's point of view as she navigates a dinner with her family nd the family of her 'crush'. 

Write a 2- 3 paragraph analysis of the protagonist that explores her personality, motivations, emotions and actions. Your response should answer the question " Who is she really?"  In discussing the character, you should also come to a conclusion about the theme of the story and how the characters contribute to this message. 

Each paragraph should include one short quotation from the story that supports the main idea. 


This assignment will be done in two stages. 

  • Stage 1 - Write your draft and meet with your teacher to review your progress.
  • Stage 2 - Review and update your work.
