Activity 4.3.3 Writing The Essay

Instructions :  This is the second stage of your essay writing activity for lesson 4.4. You must complete the first stage before you begin. In this stage you will write and review your essay, using the information you provided in the previous activity " Using Rhetorical Devices " 

Topic: Many schools believe that students should be assigned at least one hour of homework for each subject, every day. Others believe that homework is unnecessary and takes time away from other important activities. In your opinion, is there value in homework?

Follow the steps below to complete this assignment 

Step 1  : Review your notes from the previous activity and ensure that you have enough information to write your essay 

Step 2 : Write your body paragraphs, ensuring that each begins with a topic sentence that clearly states the argument to be discussed. Include your evidence as well as your rhetorical technique. End your paragraph with a concluding statement 

Step 3: Write your introduction and conclusion. 

  • Begin your introduction with a hook, that transitions into an explanation of the topic and then your thesis statement.
  • Begin your conclusion by restating the thesis in simple words, then briefly review your main evidence. End with a so what statement. 

Step 4 : Review the rubric and see what is missing from your draft

Step 5:  Ask a classmate of the teacher to check your work and give you feedback

Step 6: Revise your essay

Step 7- Submit your final draft!
