Unit 1 OF Assessment - Due Mar 24, Monday
Opened: Tuesday, 18 March 2025, 12:00 AM
Due: Wednesday, 26 March 2025, 12:01 PM
This OF Assessment includes two parts:
- Review assignment: complete in word document
- Lab component: see below

- Review assignment: complete in word document
- Lab component: see below
Osmosis and diffusion are essential biological processes that allow cells to regulate water balance and maintain homeostasis. In this lab assignment, you will explore these concepts by conducting experiments with eggs and potatoes to observe how water moves across semi-permeable membranes. By placing these biological materials in different solutions, you will investigate the effects of osmosis and diffusion, simulating real-world processes that occur in cells.
Through this assignment, you will:
- watch lab demonstration videos.
- complete pre-lab notes and questions.
- conduct your own experiments at home.
- record observations and analyze results.
- record and submit a video (4-6 minutes) for each of your experiments (2 videos in total), similar to the ones provided.
This hands-on investigation will deepen your understanding of osmosis and diffusion while enhancing your scientific inquiry and communication skills.
Instructions:
- Download the Egg and Potato Labs Assignment document
- Watch the provided demonstration videos of the Egg Lab (link on page 2) and Potato Lab (link on page 5).
- Using information from the videos, complete pages 2, 5 and 6 of the assignment document.
- Perform both the Egg Lab and Potato Lab at home following similar steps shown in the videos and make sure to use the proper solutions and conditions of that on page 3 and 7. Complete page 3, 4 and 7 of the assignment.
- Film yourself conducting the experiment, similar to the demonstration videos. Ensure your video includes key steps, observations, and results. Keep your video between 4-6 minutes long.
Submission Format:
- Submit your written responses as a PDF document and MP4 or MOV for videos.
- If your video file size exceeds 20MB, please upload to google drive or youtube and share the link to your videos.
