This is a conversation assessment in which you will meet with your teacher to discuss the texts (articles and videos) that you have studied in this unit. This assessment focuses on your reading skills.
Instructions: Choose one of the three summary activities completed in this unit
1. The World's Weirdest Natural Disasters
2. The 1972 Andes Flight Disaster
3. Saving the Whales
Prepare notes on the following questions. You must post your notes before you meet with your teacher.
Your notes may be full sentence answers or bullet point responses.
- What it the TOPIC of the article?
- What the two most important or details in the text? Explain why they are important to the text.
- Name and define 2 words that the reader must be familiar with in order to understand the text. Were you familiar with the words before reading?
- Where are these words found?
- Why are they important?
- In what way can you personally connect to the text ? ( eg. personal experience, previous studies, emotional reaction )
- Who would be most interested in reading this text? Why?
- Explain the three reading strategies covered in this unit.
- Which did you find most helpful? Give an example of how you used this strategy .
- How would you rate your understanding of this article?
- What was most difficult about reading and understanding this text?
- What aspect of reading do you need to improve? ( eg. vocabulary, speed, finding the main ideas or supporting details)
- What do you think you can do in order to improve these areas?
