Activity 4.1.1 Brainstorm & Thesis Statement

This task aims to provide you with practice crafting clear, focused, and arguable thesis statements on various topics.


Instructions:

 Read the prompts below and ensure that you understand the point of view as well as the issue to be discussed.
 Spend a few minutes brainstorming the main points, arguments, or perspectives you can take on the chosen prompt.
 Write a thesis statement that captures the essence of your chosen perspective or argument related to the prompt. Ensure that it's clear, specific, and presents a position that can be debated or explored.
Review your thesis statement. Does it effectively convey your main point? Is it concise and focused? Does it invite discussion or exploration?

SUBMIT ALL NOTES- THIS INCLUDES YOUR BRAINSTORM AND BOTH VERSIONS OF YOUR THESIS STATEMENT

Tips:

  • Be specific and concise.
  • State a clear position that can be debated.
  • Preview the main points or arguments you'll cover in your essay.


Example:

Prompt: "The government should invest more in renewable energy sources."

Thesis Statement: "Increasing government funding for research and development of renewable energy sources is crucial to reducing carbon emissions, mitigating climate change, and securing a sustainable future for our planet."
