Group Activity & Reflection

Task:

  1. Form Groups: Work in small groups of 2–3 students.

  2. Each group will choose an industry (for example: fashion, technology, automotive, sports, entertainment, etc.).

  3. Identify examples of conspicuous consumption within that industry. (Think about products, advertising, or consumer behavior that show people buying to impress others.)

  4. Create a short group presentation (3–5 minutes) that explains:

    • The examples you found.

    • How these examples demonstrate conspicuous consumption.

    • If you find an example of a knock-off or counterfeit product, you can also talk about it in your presentation.

    • Why companies or consumers might engage in these behaviors.

Reflection:
After the presentations, each group should briefly reflect (in writing or as a class discussion) on:

  • What did you learn about conspicuous consumption?

  • How does it influence people’s choices in the industry you studied?

  • Do you think these patterns are positive, negative, or both? Why?
