Fashion, Environment, and Sustainability

1) Design Adjustment
Look at the outfit you are wearing. What changes could you make if you had to remake it using 25% less fabric?

  • Create before and after sketches of your outfit.

  • Explain the changes you made.

Example (from student work):

  • Changed a long-sleeve t-shirt into a short-sleeve version.

  • Designed a new collar for the shirt.

  • Removed the pocket and enlarged the hamburger graphic to replace it.

2) Sustainable Fashion Choices
Think about your shopping and clothing habits.

  • What immediate changes (things you could start doing right now) and what long-term changes (habits you can build over time) are you willing and able to make to reduce your environmental impact?

  • Write a list of these changes.

  • Research and explain what impact your changes could have on the environment (for example, saving water, reducing energy, lowering waste).

Helpful Key Points to Consider:

  • Wash only full loads in the washing machine

  • Wear clothes more than once before washing

  • Use eco-friendly detergent

  • Wash in cold water

  • Avoid tumble drying when possible
