Kintsukuroi, or broken pottery repair in Japan, involves filling cracks with gold, silver or other valuable materials. It does not conceal the harm but emphasizes and celebrates it, and thus makes the item more beautiful and valuable than before. The ideal of kintsukuroi represents the view that imperfection and failure are natural and allow for progress and improvement.
