In stock market terminology, "bulls" and "bears" represent market trends. The term "bear" originated from 18th-century bearskin traders who sold skins they didn't own, speculating that prices would drop—a practice similar to modern short selling. The term "bull" was later adopted as the opposite of "bear," possibly due to historical bull and bear fights, symbolizing opposing market forces.
