How do Needs Become Wants?

Clothing usually starts off as a need for physical reasons, but may often become a want due to psychological and social reasons.

For example: People wear a T-shirt for physical reasons, which is a need, but choose to wear a T-shirt that identifies an individual's favourite brand(ex. Burberry) to express his or her individuality, which is a psychological reason - makes the shirt a want.

* How do needs become wants? Can all needs become wants or do some remain needs?

-A shirt to cover yourself is a need, but if you insist on only wearing a shirt in your favourite color or style, you are expressing a want. The shirt remains a need, but the style of shirt is a want.

* What is physical need with respect to clothing?

-A physical need is the need to protect your body from rain or cold weather. A jacket for which the sole function is to keep you warm in a cold climate meets your physical need to stay warm.

* How does a physical need become a psychological want?

-You may choose a jacket for it's ability to keep you warm( a physical need), but if it's a jacket that is in the latest, most popular style, it also meets your psychological want to conform.

*How does a physical need become a social needs?

-You may need a jacket form protection from cold weather, but if your jacket is part of a uniform( ex. If you are a police officer or like you a student.) Then your jacket also meets social needs.
