      Learning Goals: In this lesson, you will read chapter 2 of the novel, Mieko and the Fifth Treasure. You will discuss the main characters. You will also learn about two methods of making study notes for a novel. 



      • Speaking Task- The first day of school. 

        In Chapter 2, Mieko learns that she will be starting school in a few days. She is afraid to go and tries to convince her grandparents to let her stay home. 

        Think about your first day of high school. How did you feel? What were you worried or excited about? How did you prepare for this important day?

        Prepare a 3-minute oral description of your state of mind as you readied yourself to start high school. 

        Each student will share their ideas with the class.
