Definition:
Literary Realism
Realism was a literary movement that developed in the middle of the 19th century in France (when de Maupassant was writing) and then spread throughout the rest of Europe: all the way to Russia, and then overseas to the United States. Realism is all about portraying real life, real people with relatable issues.
The moral of The Necklace:
We should be grateful for what we have rather than constantly seeking to acquire more.
