FEB 18 Lesson 22 - Act II
Learning Goals: By the end of this lesson you will be able to
- understand Act II
Act II, Scene ii - has symbolism of BLOOD and SLEEP as key motifs and indications of guilt.
Comic Relief - is an amusing scene, incident, or speech introduced into series or tragic elements, as in a play, in order to provide temporary relief from tension, or to intensify the dramatic action.
At the start of Act II, Scene iii, after the bloody imagery, violence, and dark mood of the previous two scenes, the porter's comedy comes as a refreshing sense of relief. His good-natured joking with Macduff breaks up the tension of the play and creates a break in the dramatic murder scene.
